In 1979 Life magazine featured rare breeds, which included the Chinese Shar-Pei, who was also featured on the cover, and the following breeds: Australian Shepherd, Pharaoh Hound, Jack Russell Terrier (The Parson jack Russell is the type recognized), Portuguese Water Dog, Tibetan Mastiff and Neapolitan Mastiff and the Löwchen. All of which you will note are all AKC recognized today!
